Franklinville is a census-designated place of 1,927 people inside Franklin Township, Gloucester County, strung along Route 47 near Franklinville Lake. Franklin Township is one of only two Gloucester County municipalities on the New Jersey Pinelands Commission’s list of municipalities in the Pinelands Area, so Franklinville is genuinely Pinelands country, and that shows up in the trees. Gloucester County is described as low-lying rivers and coastal plains stretching southeast from the Delaware River to the New Jersey Pine Barrens.
Pine matters here. Franklin Township was contacted twice in August 2011 about active southern pine beetle infestations, which places it on the state survey record for that period. The beetle’s hosts are pitch pine, shortleaf pine and Virginia pine, all common on these lots. Statewide, pitch pine is the most numerous tree in New Jersey at 18.2 percent, followed by red maple at 14.2 percent and blackgum at 6.2 percent, with oak/hickory the leading forest type at 43.7 percent of forest land.
We do tree removal for dead, dying and structurally failed trees, including the ash that emerald ash borer has hit; EAB detections have occurred in all 21 New Jersey counties according to the USDA Forest Service 2024 New Jersey Forest Health Highlights. Where the tree is worth keeping, pruning to ANSI A300 standards clears the house, the shed and the driveway without wrecking the crown. For wooded lots being opened up, ask about our land clearing services.
The Gloucester County event that still defines storm work here is the EF-3 tornado of September 1, 2021, spawned by the remnants of Hurricane Ida. It ran a 12.6-mile path from Harrisonville through Mullica Hill to Deptford between 6:10 and 6:30 PM with estimated peak winds of 150 mph, uprooted many trees at Cedar Grove, snapped multiple trees near Bridgeton Pike, and produced what the National Weather Service called nearly complete deforestation in a thickly wooded area near Breakneck Road.
Straight-line wind is the more regular threat. The June 29-30, 2012 derecho brought gusts of 60 to nearly 90 mph across southern New Jersey with numerous trees and power lines down and outages lasting up to a week in places, and Superstorm Sandy took down many trees and power lines region-wide in October 2012.
We are on call at all hours. If a tree is down on a structure, a vehicle or a lane off Delsea Drive, call (856) 457-0196. Do not approach a tree in contact with a wire. Our storm crews cut in sequence so that a loaded trunk releases where we want it to.
We have been serving Gloucester County for over 20 years. Bergholz’s Tree Experts LLC is registered with the New Jersey Board of Tree Experts, NJTC Registration #768078, and work is supervised by a New Jersey Licensed Tree Care Operator (Gunar Bergholz, LTCO #862). We are fully insured, a TCIA member, and all pruning is performed to ANSI A300 standards.
Franklinville properties tend to be large, treed and served by narrow drives, so access planning is part of the quote. We tell you where the crane or bucket will sit, how the wood leaves, and what the lawn will look like afterward. Our rating is 4.9 stars across more than 300 Google reviews.
We serve homes, wineries, community and commercial sites around the township, and we are happy to walk a property and prioritise the trees that actually need attention this year. Request a free estimate and we will put it in writing.
