Vineland is the most populous municipality in Cumberland County at 60,780 people, a city large enough to hold city blocks along Landis Avenue and The Boulevard and rural acreage at the same time. It is also one of only two Cumberland County municipalities on the New Jersey Pinelands Commission’s list of municipalities in the Pinelands Area, so a lot of Vineland tree work is Pinelands tree work.
Parvin State Park, just under five miles west of Vineland in Pittsgrove, shows what grows around here: upland pine and oak forests, hardwood and Atlantic white cedar swamps and pitch pine lowlands, with dogwood, mountain laurel, holly, magnolia and wild azalea. Statewide, pitch pine accounts for 18.2 percent of New Jersey’s trees, red maple 14.2 percent and blackgum 6.2 percent; oak/hickory covers 43.7 percent of forest land and the loblolly/shortleaf pine group 23.6 percent.
Pine here has history. Vineland City was contacted about active southern pine beetle infestations in August and September 2011, and southern pine beetle was first officially recorded in New Jersey in Cumberland and Cape May counties in 2001, so documented infestations go back years on pitch, shortleaf and Virginia pine. Emerald ash borer has since been detected in all 21 New Jersey counties per the USDA Forest Service 2024 New Jersey Forest Health Highlights. We handle tree removal for trees that are gone and pruning to ANSI A300 standards for the ones that are not.
Cumberland County’s storm record is a wind record. The June 29-30, 2012 derecho tore across southern New Jersey with widespread gusts of 60 to nearly 90 mph, downing numerous trees and power lines and leaving hundreds of thousands of customers without power, some for at least a week. Tropical Storm Isaias on August 4, 2020 produced a 56 mph gust at the Millville ASOS just south of the city and tree damage with four inches of rain near Newport in the county.
Superstorm Sandy came ashore just south of Atlantic City on October 29, 2012 and took down many trees and power lines. The remnants of Ida on September 1, 2021 brought the county’s highest rainfall report, 1.94 inches at Millville, with no tornado logged in Cumberland County.
When a tree fails in a city this size, it usually lands on something. Our 24/7 emergency crews handle trees on roofs, across streets and into utility drops. Call (856) 457-0196, keep everyone away from lines, and we will get there and stabilise the situation before anything else moves.
We have been serving Cumberland County for over 20 years. You get a written scope, an access plan, real clean-up and a 4.9-star average across more than 300 Google reviews. If a Pinelands-area property has more trees than you can assess, we will walk it with you and rank the work by risk instead of quoting everything at once.
