Harrison Township’s open space plan describes upland forests dominated by beech, oak, maple and birch, with wet forests of sweet gum and red maple along the streams, and a western half that is mostly row crops. Those are the trees we prune and remove in Mullica Hill’s historic district and newer neighborhoods alike.
Our tree removal crews take down dead, split and storm-weakened trees in controlled sections around houses, and our tree pruning lifts limbs off roofs and reduces weight on long horizontal limbs, with every cut made to ANSI A300 standards. We also provide stump grinding.
With so much beech in the woods here, beech leaf disease matters: it was detected in Gloucester County for the first time in 2024. Emerald ash borer has now been detected in all 21 New Jersey counties, according to the USDA Forest Service 2024 New Jersey Forest Health Highlights. Bacterial leaf scorch, first seen in southern New Jersey around 1985, mainly attacks red oaks and also affects sweetgum and maple.
Harrison Township took the worst tree damage in Gloucester County’s modern record. On September 1, 2021, the remnants of Hurricane Ida spun up an EF-3 tornado with 150 mph peak winds on a 12.6-mile path. The National Weather Service documented many trees uprooted around Cedar Grove, EF-3 damage in the Willow Oaks subdivision, barns destroyed on Bridgeton Pike, a dairy farm’s barns and silos destroyed, and nearly 100 percent of trees snapped in a wooded area near Breakneck Road.
Smaller storms follow the same corridor. An EF0 tornado near Saddle Court in Mullica Hill left a narrow path of tree damage on June 13, 2019, and trees came down near Commissioners Road and Bridgeton Pike on June 30, 2024.
If a tree is on your house, across your driveway or hung up in wires in Mullica Hill or Harrison Township, call our 24-hour emergency tree service at (856) 457-0196. Stay well away from anything touching a wire and let the utility make it safe first. We use rigging to take weight off a structure in a controlled order instead of pulling and hoping.
